A three-day capacity-building workshop for science and mathematics teachers in Southern Taraba has been inaugurated by the Kwararafa Galaxy Club with support from the TY Danjuma Foundation.

The training, taking place at Yoka Hotel in Takum Local Government Area, is designed to enhance the teaching capacity of educators in public primary and junior secondary schools across the southern part of the state.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Project Officer of the club, Prof. Sabo Zaku, said the initiative aims to reverse the declining interest of students in science-related subjects in the region.

He emphasized the need to equip teachers with modern teaching techniques that can inspire students to embrace science and mathematics.

According to him, many students are increasingly choosing arts-based courses over science disciplines, a trend the workshop seeks to address by rebuilding a solid foundation for science education.

Also speaking, a member of the project committee, Adda Danladi, noted that the programme specifically targets science and mathematics teachers to make the subjects more engaging and accessible to young learners. He added that improved teaching methods would help spark students’ interest from an early stage.

In his remarks, the Taraba State Coordinator of the TY Danjuma Foundation, Emmanuel Ishaku, said the foundation partnered with the club to strengthen the capacity of teachers and improve science education in public schools.

He expressed confidence that the workshop would positively impact the quality of science and mathematics teaching at both primary and junior secondary levels.

Some participants, including Magaji Angela and Kurutsi Sule, commended the organisers, noting that they had gained practical teaching techniques that would enhance their classroom delivery.

The workshop is expected to equip participants with innovative strategies and contribute to strengthening science and mathematics education across Southern Taraba.
