Taraba: Jalingo City Rotary Club Donates Borehole to Santewa Community.

By Saidu Adamu, Jalingo

The Rotary Club of Jalingo City has donated a borehole worth millions of naira to the community of Santewa in Bashen Ward of Yoro Local Government Area of Taraba State.

Speaking at a brief commissioning ceremony marking the official handing over of the project to the community, the President of RC Jalingo City Dr. Alex Maiangwa said that the development was a fulfilment of a promise made during his investiture last year that funds realized at the event would be used to do projects that touched lives of the less privileged.

“During my investiture ceremony last year, friends, parners and well- wishers generously supported our fundraising effort with the hope that we would carry out impactful humanitarian projects that would touch lives directly.

“Today, we are proud to say that your contributions have produced visible results here in Santewa community “, he said.

He observed that access to clean water was not a luxury but a necessity because water sustains life, promotes health, supports education and strengthens communities.

“Before this project, many families here faced difficulties in accessing potable water. Women and children often had to travel long distances in search of water, exposing them to stress and health risk. We believe this borehole will help reduce those burdens and improve the wellbeing of this community” he explained.

He observed that the project reflected one of Rotary’s motto which includes Service Above Self.

“Rotary is committed to promoting peace, fighting disease, providing clean water, supporting education, growing local economies and protecting the environment.
Through this borehole, we are contributing to one of Rotary’s core areas of focus—Water, Sanitation and Hygiene”, Maiangwa said.

He encouraged the community to take over ownership the facility:
“Please protect it, maitain it properly and ensure that it servers generations to come”.

Rotarian Joyce Madanga who is a staff of Taraba State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, and a former President of RC Jalingo, advised the community on the need to ensure regular maintainance of the facility and guard it jealously so that it can serve them for long.

A Past President of RC Jalingo City Rotarian Sylvester Vinks Danjuma, a retired Permanent Secretary in Taraba State Government, also graced the occasion.

Other include Rotarian Zainab Hero, President Elect Jalingo Prestige and Rotarian Monica Awu, President Elect Jalingo City. ////
