Breaking News: Bayelsa Deputy Governor, Sen. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, is dead

The Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, has died after collapsing in his office at 60 years.

Reports indicates that Senator Ewhrudjakpo slumped in his office at about 3.30 pm and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Yenagoa, where he was pronounced dead shortly on arrival.

The Bayelsa State Government has confirmed the death, describing it as a “huge loss”. Tributes have poured in from across the state and the country, elusising the good virtues of Senator Ewhrudjakpo and his service and contributions to the development of Bayelsa State and Nigeria.

Senator Ewhrudjakpo had been serving as Deputy Governor since 2020 under Governor Douye Diri. Prior to his elevation, he represented Bayelsa West in the 9th Senate, where he chaired key committees and was regarded as one of the more influential lawmakers from the South-South region.

Meanwhile, the Governor of the State, Senator, Duoye Diri is yet to issue official statement on the death of his Deputy as details of the causes of the death and burial arrangements are being awaited
