Governors of Taraba and Benue states have held a high-level meeting in Wukari, Taraba State, to address the persistent security challenges affecting communities in both states.

Dr Agbu Kefas of Taraba State and Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia of Benue State led delegations comprising senior government officials, heads of security agencies, and traditional rulers to deliberate on lasting solutions to the crisis in their border communities.

On arrival in Wukari, Governor Alia paid a courtesy visit to the Aku Uka of the Jukun Kingdom, HRM Dr Ishaku Adda Ali, acknowledging the traditional institution’s role in promoting peace and stability.

Governor Alia said he was in Wukari with the full Benue State Government team to strengthen collaboration with Taraba State in confronting insecurity.

He noted that as neighbouring states facing similar threats, there was an urgent need for synergy to restore peace and guarantee the safety of lives and property.

He commended the Aku Uka for his contributions to peace-building efforts within the state and across the country, stressing that engagement with traditional rulers remains critical to achieving sustainable security.

Governor Agbu Kefas, described the joint meeting as a demonstration of both leaders’ firm commitment to ending the crisis.

He announced that a joint committee would be established to implement resolutions reached at the meeting and ensure sustained follow-up actions.

Also speaking, the Tor Tiv, Prof James Ayatse, emphasised the importance of peaceful coexistence between the people of Taraba and Benue, urging stakeholders to prioritise dialogue and unity.

In his remarks, the Aku Uka expressed optimism that the deliberations would yield meaningful outcomes and prayed for enduring peace in the affected communities.

Our correspondent reports that the governors visited internally displaced persons in Abako, Benue State, and Chanchanji, Taraba State.

The delegation assured the affected communities of improved security measures, safe return to their ancestral homes and the provision of relief materials to ease their hardship.

The meeting highlights renewed efforts by both administrations to secure the southern part of Taraba State and adjoining communities in Benue through coordinated action and strengthened inter-state collaboration.
