Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have neutralised four armed militia members and recovered a cache of weapons following renewed communal violence in Usmanu Village, Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The operation, conducted under Operation Peace Shield, followed credible intelligence on a fresh outbreak of hostilities linked to the protracted land dispute between the Shomo and Wurkun communities—an unrest that has flared intermittently over the years and recently led to the destruction of houses and property.
Military sources said troops were swiftly deployed to the area to contain the violence and prevent a further breakdown of law and order. Upon arrival, soldiers reportedly came under heavy fire from armed assailants emerging from the Fadama axis, triggering a brief but intense gunfight that saw the attackers overpowered.
During a subsequent sweep, troops recovered three dane guns, a fabricated AK-47 rifle, 25 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and two motorcycles believed to have been used by the assailants.
In a surprising twist, a personnel of the Nigeria Police Force was arrested at the scene for allegedly operating alongside the armed group. Military authorities said the suspect is undergoing investigation and profiling to ascertain the level of involvement.
Commenting on the operation, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander 6 Brigade/Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke, commended the troops for their professionalism and swift response, reiterating the Brigade’s resolve to sustain operations aimed at flushing out criminal elements and restoring peace across Taraba State.
General Uwa urged residents of Karim Lamido and neighbouring communities to remain calm, assuring them of the Army’s commitment to restoring lasting peace. He also appealed for continued cooperation with security agencies through the provision of timely and credible information.
The Army further encouraged the public to report suspicious movements as security efforts continue under Operation Peace Shield, Operation Lafiya Nakowa, and Operation Zafin Wuta.
The statement was issued on 30 November 2025 in Jalingo by Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade.
