A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress APC in Taraba State Chief David Sabo Kente has warned that the party risk serious implosion if the massive defections into the party are not properly handled.
Chief Kente made the call in a New Year message on Monday while on a phone interaction with Journalists.
He insisted that some of the incoming members have taken over as leaders of the party and control the structure of the party but must ensure that those who built the party over the years are not relegated to irrelevance otherwise, it could lead to protests and massive collapse of the current stability in the party.
“In the coming days, we expect that those who have defected from other political parties into the APC and have taken over or are about to take over structures will be very kind and ensure that we coexist and everyone is carried along.
“Otherwise, there could be an implosion and that could be disastrous. So it is important that we do the right thing so that we can go into the next election strong, focused and United” he said.
Kente disclose that out of protest, some of them worked to bring in the current Governor even while he was in the PDP but regretted that the governor has not carried them along.
He however said he still maintains a cordial relationship with the governor knowing that there is room for correction and reconciliation.
“For now, the relationship is still cordial even though the wicked ones among us are Fanning the ambers of discord but I hope the political leaders will not succumb to the gimmicks.
“Some are threatened and so are working hard to divide us so that they will have advantage. We would not let that happen” he said.
He also called on relevant authorities to ensure that the relative peace and security that is experienced during the Yuletide season is sustained and built upon.
The former Commissioner representing Taraba State at the North East Development Commission NEDC also call on both the State and Federal Governments to fast track the process of delivering good governance and dividends of democracy to the people.
“For me, the most important thing will be that we should all learn together as one people irrespective of our ethnic, religious and political differences. No single group can be an island. We need one another to survive and thrive.
“It is also important to note that we are heading towards another political era where political activities may start heating up soon. I will call on players to play the game by the books and remove desperation. But even as we go into politics again, it is pertinent that those entrusted with power continue to work and deliver on their mandate to the people.
“Let me use this opportunity to call on the government at all levels to ensure quick completion of ongoing projects in the State and for the Federal Government especially to pay more attention to Taraba State. The condition of roads in the State is simply pathetic and that is not good”
